Hi, I’m Lauren—a single mom, DIY dreamer, spiritual explorer, and creator of The Building Life. This space is for anyone rebuilding their life from the inside out.

Hi, I’m Lauren.
I was born in Santa Barbara, California. After my parents divorced, my mom and I moved to Texas while my dad settled in D.C., and later Maryland and Virginia—so I grew up splitting my time between states. I went to college in Maryland, where I lived for 10 years before planting roots in Alabama in 2012.

I’m a single mom to two incredible boys (currently 14 and 7) who definitely keep life interesting—and occasionally chaotic.

By day, I work as a Media Coordinator and Recruiter for a Maritime Academy, though my roots are in digital art and creativity.

I bought my home as a fixer-upper, and life has been full of excitement, non-stop projects, and—let’s be honest—more than a few “what was I thinking?” moments. I love flipping furniture, building things, and making a space my own.

When I’m not covered in sawdust or chasing kids, you’ll likely find me outdoors—hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking—you name it. I’m also passionate about music, art, animals, books, learning and giving back when I can.

Life hasn’t always been gentle—and like many women, I’ve faced seasons of burnout, heartbreak, identity loss, and starting over from scratch. The Building Life was born from my own journey to rebuild myself piece by piece, learning how to grow, set boundaries, and finally pour some of the love I’d been giving to everyone else back into me.

People say I’m always busy, generally happy, and probably too kind for my own good. Honestly? I’ll take it.

Through this blog and podcast, I hope you find something that makes you feel seen, heard, and a little less alone. Whether it’s a truth you needed, a tool that helps, or just a moment of exhale—I want this space to remind you that you’re allowed to rebuild, redefine, rest and, at times, feel completely out of control.
